József Asbóth is a renowned marque player in the era of the middle of 20th century, the winner of the 1947 French Championship (now Roland Garros), who, according to many experts, is the greatest Hungarian tennis player of all time.
2017 is the 100th anniversary of his birth and the 70th anniversary of his sensational victory in Paris. In addition to the same year, the Hungarian Tennis Association celebrates its 110th anniversary of its founding. The Hungarian Tennis Association declared the Year 2017 as the Asbóth Year and devoted to the memory of the only Hungarian tennis player, who won a single Grand Slam title in men’s singles.
